Bertha Louise (Abraham) Hartje
Bertha Louise Abraham was born November 16, 1900 in Hensel,
Pembina, North Dakota to Theodore Abraham (1866-1923) and Emma Sommer or Emma
Kittner(born 1871) (There is conflicting evidence, one may be her birth name
and the other a first marriage).
Bertha has one step brother, Herman Kittner (born Dec 1894), one sister, Celia E Abraham (1905-1910), one brother, William J Abraham (1906-1987).
Bertha married Alfred William Hartje (1896-1969) on February
2, 1920 in Gretna, Manitoba. Bertha and
Alfred lived and worked on farms in Pembina and Walsh Counties in North
Dakota. Her grandson remembers her
walking into town to work at a store for years.
I have not been able to find any official record of this so far. Bertha and Alfred had seven children. Harvey Laverne Hartje (1921-1999), Lloyd
William Hartje (1922-1954), Ardell Harold Hartje (1924-2008), Hazel Louella
Hartje (1926-1953) Pearl I. Hartje (1927-2006), Sidney Alfred Hartje (1930-2014)
and Lee Edward Hartje (1932-2012).
Bertha died Friday, September 16, 1994 in Wedgewood Manor,
Cavalier, Pembina, North Dakota. Before
moving to the nursing home, Bertha lived in the Corner Court Trailer Park in
Grafton, North Dakota.
